![]() Hmm.. Probably my favorite console of all time.. The Sega Genesis.. I remember getting one of these things in.. Hmm.. was it 1989? Well.. some time around then. I spent way too much money on the system and even more on the games.. Then I loved it so much that even after I bought (and sold 6 months later) a Super Nintendo, I went out and got the Sega-CD and later the 32-X attachment. I own a Sega Nomad (like a GameBoy that plays Genesis games) and now own a Sega-CDX (Genesis and Sega-CD in one portable CD player sized case).. Anyway, enough about my little obsession.. Well, the front runner in the 16-Bit console wars. With NEC's TurboGrafix-16 advertising itself as a 16-bit system, but actually only being 8-bit system with a 16-bit color pallet, failing in the US market. The genesis's only competition was Nintendo's 8-bit NES. The Genesis quickly dominated the home video game market. Having one of the largest game libraries in history (if you include that it could play Sega Master System games with the PowerBase Converter), and being the first system to truly bring the arcade experience home. Having a Motorola 68000 processor (which is used in a ton of Arcade Games) ports to the system came quickly and usually only suffered from the limited color pallet that the genesis had, 64 colors on screen out of a palette of 512. The Genesis has more system add-ons and system version than any other console, starting with the modem that was available at the Genesis's release all the way to the Sega-32x. Sega tried everything to keep peoples attention, they succeeded.
