![]() The TurboGrafx-16.. The PC-Engine.. This system was the first to go the way of the SEGA Saturn. Enjoying phenomenal success in it's homeland, Japan, and drawing nothing but question marks in the minds of people State-side. Released in 1988, the TG16 was the first "16-bit" gaming system. However this depended on how, exactly, you looked at a system. If you judge a system by graphics then it was a 16-bit system Although, if you're like most people (and companies) you would judge a system on the power of it's main processor, which leaves the TG-16 and it's fast 8-bit CPU right next to the NES. Most people in the US never heard of or vaguely remember the TG-16, which is really surprising seeing that it was a ground breaking system on all fronts, it did have a nice color palette, which was a relief after staring at the 16 color goodness of the NES for so long. It was the first system to have a CD-ROM addon. Also Being the first game to have Full Motion Video, games like Sherlock Holmes and It Came From the Desert. Next we have the TurboExpress, the first portable "GameBoy" like system that could play the games straight from the home console, and on top of that had a TV turner cartridge, so you could use it as a Portable Television. Despite all of these things.. It was flop.. People in the states were so into Nintendo's gaming system that they never gave the new NEC console a chance.. It was totally overlooked and then the SEGA Genesis came out, which made sure that no one looked back.
MagicEngine Here it is.. the only emulator I ever paid for and felt it was worth it. After looking through the slim pickings in terms of free TG16/PC-E emulators and coming away totally unsatified; I started look at all the review pages and noticed that ever emulator to come out was compared to MagicEngine. I went to their webpage, downloaded the demo. After 5 minutes of play, pulled out the credit card and ordered away! If you love your TG16/PC-E, then I know you will too..
