But, what does it have to do with Salamanders? August 31, 2001 - 1:30PM EST

I've been asking myself that question for a long time.. :) Well, I got my Salamander 2 board in the mail today form that lovely little California sized country called Japan. I tell ya.. the guy who packed this board up for shipping was a God.. I've never seen a board packed so well.. Anyway.. I'm interested to see what the game is like, since I'd never even heard of it before last Tuesday.. I'll be sure to let you all know what I think.

Do the Happy Dance!!! August 30, 2001 - 10:22PM EST

E-bay Blunder!! August 21, 2001 - 6:05PM EST

In a rash move today I bought another PCB on E-bay.. Yup.. Salamander 2.. Remind me to think before I click, and remember that I've already spent my monthly PCB limit! Damn the "Buy It Now" feature on E-bay.. Damn it to hell! Oh well, the game looks pretty cool and the price isn't too bad considering that it's being shipped to me from, oh where was that again, oh yes.......... Japan!! Can't wait to get it!

Gens v1.00 released! August 21, 2001 - 5:28PM EST

Yup, I know.. 11 days ago.. I downloaded it the day it was released and never posted an update.. It's been a busy past couple weeks, what can I say. Well, Stef hit the good ole' GENS v1.00 release. Anything special to celebrate, not really, couple bug fixes here and there. Oh yeah, and perfect Castlevania Bloodlines emulation!

Super-Mega Ninja Attack! August 21, 2001 - 1:45PM EST

Using my super l33t Ninja skills I have procured a fully functional Gyruss PCB!!! Woo Hoo... My holy grail of arcade spendor! Need to get the supplies together to build a Jamma adapter, the only thing that sucks about the whole thing.. stupid male to male jamma fingerboards.. /me grumbles.

New Sections on hold. August 21, 2001 - 1:31PM EST

I know, I know.. I said they were going to be here.. But as I got to looking around my current emulation section I started to notice that there are a few things that need to be taken care of before I can do the new sections. Namely, The Sega-CD, NES, Nintendo-64 and Playstation Sections all need to be finished before I can whole heartedly dive into new emulators. Perhaps I'll work on them some tonight if I can stop playing Counter-Strike for 10 minutes..

New Sections coming July 31, 2001 - 2:23PM EST

Well, I'll be working on a new section for the emulator portion of my website. I'll be adding a Sega Master System section just cause I've been playing with one lately and it's been a ton of old school fun!

I might also be adding a Neo-Geo emulation section because I've been playing some mad
Windjammers lately. However I'm slightly unsure if I'm going to do it though. I said I wouldn't do arcade emulators here, but they had a Neo-Geo home system that played the arcade games.. Sigh.. I'll probably just do it.

I had 2 people ask me if I was going to add a GameBoy Advance section, I'm not to sure about this. While I do have a favorite GBA emulator and I enjoy playing it almost as much as I like playing my real GBA, I think the system might be a little too new for me to feel comfortable with. We'll see though.

Let sleeping dogs lie. July 31, 2001 - 2:00PM EST

Well, played the P.O.W. game for a while after I got it. Remind me never to buy an arcade board based on how much I liked its NES counterpart. :) The NES version has better music, better gameplay, the only thing it loses at is graphics.. pretty sad if you ask me. Oh well.. It was only 10 bucks.

New arcade board coming! June 28, 2001 - 4:12PM EST

I put in a bid on the game P.O.W. on E-bay about 5 days ago.. For $9.99. To my amazing suprise I got an e-mail telling me that I won the auction.. How much would that suck to put a board up for auction and have it sell at the starting price of 10 bucks.. Oh well.. So I should have that coming within the next week.. I've never played the game in the arcade, but I loved the old NES version of it (back when I was 13 or so!). But for 10 bucks I guess I can't complain too much. I'm just hoping the good ole' US Postal Service treats it a little better than the Life Force board that I bought back in Feburay.. wish I would have taken a picture of that board.. I didn't know they could bend like that.. :) Anyway.. I'll let you guys know what I think of it..

Month in review! June 28, 2001 - 11:10AM EST

Here I am.. catching up on almost a month of missing posts.. So I'll just recap the latest releases and call it good.

ZSNES
The all powerful Super Nintendo emulator ZSNES team have released the mighty version 1.31! Looks like there are quite a few game fixes in this release.. Don't hesitate to grab it.. Oh.. They also got a little bit of creativity going and redesigned their homepage for the first time in like, 2 years or so.. Be sure to check that out too..

GENS
It seems that Stef forgot to remove a few test lines of code in his Sega Genesis emulator GENS. So version 0.99a was released, which fixes the previosly broken netplay option.

ePSXe
The God of all Playstation emulators.. ePSXe blessed us with a new release also.. Now up to version 1.40, this one includes a wizard that helps people who have never worked with a plugin based emulator set up the software the first time you run it. Toss in the expected compatability updates and fixed games and you've got the most exciting emu release of the month!

PETE!!!
Speaking of ePSXe... The plugin master has released version after version of his wonderful Pete's Plugins for PSEmu Pro Plugin based emulators. His GPU, to SPU, to ASPI (that's Video, Audio, and CD-rom for you non PSX emulator peoples) Plugins are the best.. I don't use anything else.. Check all of his new releases out if you grab the latest version of ePSXe..

RETRODRIVE
Tim Meekins attempts to rock our world with the next chapter of his Sega 32-X emulator, RetroDrive! Actually he doesn't do to bad a job. Looks like he decided to write a brand new emulation core, which fixed a ton of timing issues.. Well.. whatever he did sure sped things up a lot! Don't forget to grab a copy before you leave.

I think that just about catches me up.. Let me know if I forgot anything.. :)

MagicEngine 0.98 Test released June 4, 2001 - 10:15AM EST

Hey, here is something that hasn't happened in a while.. MagicEngine the wonderful TurboGrafix-16/PC Engine emulator actually got a little update action happening. Not much of an update really though, one bug fix, PCM sounds were not always played during CD-ROM emulation. Oh, and it's not really a release.. it's just a test.. But hey I'll take what I can get.

Download it from the PC-Engine Section.

Possible NES emulator change. June 4, 2001 - 10:06AM EST

Well, as NESten seems to be dying a slow death, I have been looking around for something a little better. I came across RockNES and while not perfect, it has it's advantages. Features include, 3D hardware support (really nice actually), fullscreen mode (who would have thought this would be a feature), and some other just plain nifty stuff. Unfortunately the compatability just isn't as high as NESten right now, but I would guess that can only get better. I'll keep and eye on it.. you might want to give it a try also.

GensX... Errr.. RetroDrive Release 1.. June 4, 2001 - 9:56AM EST

Well, It apears that Tim Meekins decided he didn't like the name of his Sega Genesis/32-X emulator, Vegas.. umm.. I mean GensX.. Wait now it's RetroDrive! Seems Tim hasn't really worked on this emulator for a few months, but thought he might as well release what he'd done since the last version. Seems he has a few new ideas and might start coding on the emu again.. Can't wait to see what happens.

See the list of changes on the Emulation News page. Or just download it from the Sega 32-X Section.

Gens V 0.99 June 4, 2001 - 9:43AM EST

Well this happened a few days ago as far as I can tell, But you wouldn't know it by looking at Stef's GENS website. The list of changes is rather small, 3 game fixes, a timing issue, and the latest Kaillera client. Probably still worth a look-see..

See the full list of changes on the Emulation News page. Or just download it from the Sega Genesis Section.

ZSNES 1.28, 1.28b, 1.29........... Oh My! June 4, 2001 - 9:36AM EST

Well after spending far too much time in the ZSNES message baords I figured I should probably stop posting there and start posting here. Well, 3 new versions of ZNSES have been released since I last posted. With one of the most noteable addition being Triple Buffering.. and what a lovely addition it is.. Finally, you can get rid of that horrible screen tearing without using Vsync (which has a tendancy to drop your frame rate by 20% if you don't refresh your screen at 60hz)

Be sure to check out the list of changes (just the 1.29 changes) on the Emulation News page. Download it now from the Super Nintendo Section.

ZSNES 1.26... smooooth... like buttta.. May 18, 2001 - 3:14PM EST

Nevermind that release that came out 2 days ago.. The ever restless code mongers in the ZSNES camp have churned out another piece of compiled heaven.

Be sure to check out the list of changes on the Emulation News page.
Download it now from the Super Nintendo Section.

ZSNES 1.25 stealthly enters the Emu scene.... May 16, 2001 - 9:21AM EST

Looks like the programing Ninja of the ZSNES clan have hunted us down and attacked us with a new release. 1.25 fixes another huge list of bugs, one of which is the annoying plane controls bug in Pilotwings. Also it has been ported over to DirectX 8.0, so that is now required (I'm sure most of you are using it anyway).

Be sure to check out the list of changes on the Emulation News page.
Download it now from the Super Nintendo Section.

GENS 0.98 released.. (this is embarrasing) May 14, 2001 - 11:31AM EST

Okay.. now I know I've been out of it for a long time.. my mind way gone.. Check this little bit of news out that missed back on.. ohhhh.. April 11th!

Looks like Stef put together a nice little release of GENS adding tons of features like netplay via Kaillera as well as a few other nice little fixes and features..

See the full list of changes on the Emulation News page. Or just download it from the Sega Genesis Section.

ZSNES 1.20 surfaces.... May 14, 2001 - 9:52AM EST

Yeah.. I know.. It came out on April 30th. You have e-mailed me and let me know countless times, I guess I just haven't gotten around to updating my page lately. Not that I have a good reason to not.. I just didn't do it.

The wonderful ZSNES team have really out done themselves this time people. Just like I predicted, in a previous post, the benefits of Open Source emulation have fixed the oldest non-working game in ZSNES. Strap on your flight suit cause we can all take to the skies in Pilotwings!

Check out the (huge) list of changes on the Emulation News page.
Or just download it from the Super Nintendo Section.
